About Bipolar City: a place to explore, not a cage you’re trapped in.
What if bipolar was understood from the inside out?
I wonder what life would be like if bipolar was a place to freely roam, explore, and map
without fear?
(Instead of it being like a cage placed on us from the outside.)Bipolar City is made for that adventure within.
It’s a creative community and shop for citizens and permanent residents.(Those who love us, the travelers, are welcome too)
The citizens of Bipolar City include anyone diagnosed with:– Bipolar 1 / Bipolar I
– Bipolar 2 / Bipolar II
– Cyclothymia
– Manic Depression
– Manic-Depressive Illness
– Schizoaffective Disorder (Bipolar Type)
– Rapid Cycling Bipolar
– Substance-Induced Bipolar
– Unspecified Bipolar
– Manic-Depressive Psychosis
– Circular Insanity
or any of these matched with Psychosis.Who are the permanent residents, then?
Since institutional, professional, and medical metrics for a diagnosis vary internationally, permanent residents are anyone who truly feels like they’re already in Bipolar City but they either can’t or won’t get a diagnosis because they need to stay safe.
If that’s you, you’re welcome here too! π
By clinical definition, we feel more than the general population.
By our definition, feeling more than most can also be a great thing. Here, you’re welcome to appreciate and get curious about your mind, body, and soul with respect, love, and fun.
Welcome to Bipolar City!
Citizenship is open to all.
A Special Message from the Mayor
The creator of Bipolar City (your mayor, if you will) has been a citizen since 2018. That summer, she had her first manic episode with psychotic features, landing her a substance-induced Bipolar 1 diagnosis and a few weeks in the mental hospital.
A few years later, in 2021, she had a second severe manic episode (sober this time) with psychosis again, leading to another hospital stay. But this time was different. Resourced with years of study, professional support, and lifestyle changes, she was ready to see it all, for real.
So she asked her nurses: “If it’s all in my head, let’s see it. I want an MRI.”
A couple of days later, she went in for a CT scan and then an MRI while still deep in psychosis and mania (yes, this is the homepage image and logo of Bipolar City). The technician looked confused after the MRI and asked the mayor if she had fallen asleep during it.
“Almost,” was the honest reply.
Since then, your mayor’s exploration into her psyche, life, and the world has deepened each year, and the resources on this site are a product of that work and exploration.
Her identity is further revealed when you buy a resource from the shop.
(Alongside a special code word to say hello with if you see her in public! She loves to travel, so you may spot her anywhere in the world β€οΈπ§)
Kind regards,
Your mayor in Bipolar City.
